Demurrage: The time the filled containers spend inside the terminal. This is measured from when they are offloaded from the vessel or train until they are picked up at the port (gated out). Detention: The time the containers spend outside the terminal.
For example, if a consignee holds onto a container for longer than the agreed-upon free time, they would be responsible for paying demurrage charges.
Detention charges: the party responsible for keeping the container beyond the free time for loading/unloading is generally the one who pays detention charges.
Storage: These charges cover the usage of storage space occupied by the container on terminal grounds, inside a warehouse or at the container yard.
